Leaf is one of two papers created by Cambridge Imprint for the Ditchling Museum of Art+Craft in 2019, and is based on a motif from their St. Dominic’s Press archive. St Dominic’s Press was part of the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic, an artist’s colony espousing principles of communal life and self-sufficiency which was established in the Sussex village of Ditchling in 1921 by Eric Gill, Hilary Pepler and Desmond Chute. Over the course of over 60 years, the Guild drew many other artists and craftsmen to the village. The museum, housed in the old village schoolhouse, holds a permanent collection of the outpourings of this very active community, which was only finally disbanded in 1989. This vignette of leaves was originally a woodblock cut by Eric Gill and it was used to ornament the ends of chapters in many hand-printed St. Dominic’s Press books.

Cambridge Imprint paper is printed in England on responsibly sourced paper of archiving quality, using vegetable oil-based inks that are kind to the environment. Each sheet is printed in one or two hand-mixed inks on uncoated 90 gsm stock to create a high-quality matte paper with a hand-printed feel to it.

Each sheet measures 50 cm x 70 cm.
