Songbird Quilted Throw in Red Madder

£165.00

A block printed exceedingly soft, delicate and pretty patterned quilted throw in a variation of our Songbird pattern, measuring approximately 130 x 180 centimetres (50 x 70 inches). Comes in a drawstring bag which matches the spotted reverse side of the quilt.

Printed and sewn in India. The quilts are 100% cotton, with a 100% cotton fill, and are entirely hand block-printed, hand-stitched and dyed with natural madder root, augmented with Dhavda flowers. The printing method is called Dabu, traditionally practiced in Rajasthan. In this method, the pattern is delicately hand-printed on the fabric using a hand-carved wooden block and a liquid clay resist. Once the clay is dry, the fabric is dyed. Those parts printed with clay resist the dye. The longer the fabric is immersed in the dye, the deeper the red colour. When the dye and the clay are washed off, the pink and red pattern is revealed.

Dry-clean for best results. If washing expect some bleeding of the natural colour and do not wash with pale items. Subtle variations in tone, gentle fading, or slight colour release during early washes may occur. These changes are part of the beauty of plant dyes.
